Hi:
You are invited to my art show p.m. at the Riverhouse Pottery
and Gift Gallery on 118 S. Palmetto Ave., Sanford, FL 32771. I
am showing many new paintings and some never seen sculptures and
wearable art works "My Retrospective - Looking Back at works
from the past to the present."
I started painting when I was about 25 and I'm now 80 and still
painting, with a wet one on the easel! It's hard for me to look
at the past but I'll definitely include some old pieces including
me!
I hope you can come! It should be fun!

Show of 23 oils, acrylics and digital original art works at White

"I had a wonderful show" said Cecil yesterday as she
loaded her van for future events to be announced! Cecil sold three
works to happy buyers!
Cecil
is a collectible artist. Works on display were for sale. Cecil
maintains a studio in Deltona and enjoys a fine social art life
in Central Florida incorporating her art work, e-mail, FaceBook
and 300 friends, give or take a few.
"I
used to be a bit lonely making art in my studio! Now, now with
Facebook I can paint and keep up with my friends. I just check
my e-mail. I love my life. I have PayPal on my website! I sell
my art works off my site or in my galleries! No more sidewalk
shows. I did hundreds of street shows in the early days when there
were no venues in Florida! Now, I feel free, creative and rested.
My feet wore out so I'm glad technology came and saved my feet!
A website does help! It's my portfolio on line! I'm glad I joined
the computer age when it started because I can take part in the
social media life. My love of news and being a reporter works
well with my love of art."
"For example, White Cup Coffeehouse has Wi-Fi! So I bring
my computer with Wi-fi and hang out, make digital art, demonstrate
how I make digital art, and visit with my coffeehouse friends.
My motto is 'get out more and enjoy the coffeehouse life. Besides
that, White Cup has wonderful coffee and tasty treats."

Digital Art Illustrates Economic Meltdown
"I
guess you could say God predicted this in Revelations!" Cecil
said.
Brixstone
Report, British financial newsletter used my art to illustrate
our global financial recession. I received a call from London
from Mr. Duncan Lamb of the Brixtone Report who said he would
like to use my art to illustrate the economic meltdown the world
is experiencing... of course I said yes. He paid me using my PayPal.
Wall Street Journal also called me for permission to use the same
image.

"As
we all know, we did have and still have the awful depression all
over our country. I used my photos taken at Hialeah Racetrack
in Miami and recolored each horse as in the Revelations descriptions!
Brixton Report editor said it described what happened to the world
economy!" Cecil said.
Terry
Hummel, well known art critic of the Orlando Sentinel wrote this
nice article about my guest artist appearance at the sumptuous
Hotel and Restaurant including an art gallery in 2004. What a
fabulous night it was. Vintners from Australia and New Zealand
combined their lovely wines with Chef John Clarks's cuilinary
talents at a dinner to remember along with my art works with the
themed dinner called "The Near and Far Away in tastes, travels
and paintings." No detail was overlooked down to the specially
hand painted table linens, special space music and lighting. Even
the entry way was a happening into another planetary horizon with
black lights and silver orbiting lights.

Rediscovering Florida"
2005-09-02 until 2005-09-30
DeBary Hall
DeBary, FL, USA United States of America
Cecil Herring's
art exhibition: "Rediscovering Florida" opens Sept.
2 at DeBary Hall in DeBary, Florida. The show features Herrings
latest works of landscapes and florals, scenes of Florida. Herring's
selections are brilliantly colored watercolors and digital media.
DeBary Hall was the winter retreat of a European-born wine merchant,
Frederick deBary, who chose the St. Johns River country for his
hunting estate.
From Herring's
Artist statement- " 'Find your bliss,' the great Philosopher-
Anthropologist Joseph Campbell advised. Campbell was right. I
found my 'bliss' in 1956, 49 years ago. I have loved every minute
I have spent creating art works and to this day I still love my
time spent painting and sculpting. Time stops and I don't age!"

When they go
on view at today's DeBary Hall opening reception, the paintings
in "Rediscovering Florida" will be close-up and personal.
That's partly because the works by Cecil Herring deal with the
state's natural subjects, from a view of Lake Osceola to orchids
and the old cabbage palm growing by the side of the road. But
it's also because of the Deltona artist's very direct approach.
"Last
year, I started rediscovering my own Florida, so to speak,"
said Herring, a native of Miami, who has lived in Central Florida
for decades.
"And,
in the spring, I got carried away with the colors. It seemed as
if the amaryllises bloomed all at once and my tabebuia tree was
so gorgeous that I just went out with my paints and a palette
knife and painted it on the spot," she said.
That started
the series of outdoor, or "plein air," paintings that
are featured in her solo exhibit. Not only do its 12 paintings
- 11 oil-on-canvas and one the new study of the hot-pink cyclamen
that sparked her creativity - capture the essence of what inspired
Herring.
They also embody
the whole experience of painting in the open air. "These
show all the beauty - and the time and trouble," she said,
laughing. "The sun, wind, bugs that caused me a lot of exhaustion.
One day on the St. Johns River, I saw a great Florida cabbage
palm.
"The wind
was blowing, so I did it as fast as possible, with the largest
tools possible - trowels and big tubes of paint that I squeezed
right on the canvas," said Herring. "I finally tied
my canvas to the back of my van and slathered on the color. Sometimes
I even scratched into the surface to get details. It was a nightmare,
but it was so much better than painting from photographs - I could
really show how it felt to be there.
"Even
back in the '60s, when I was a student at the University of Florida,
I could not stand it unless I went out in the field to work -
I loved being in those rolling hills," she said. "I
saw Florida as a magic fairyland, and I got that kind of feeling
again last year. It's all there, in the thick paints on the canvas:
a magic fairyland."
If You Go

Florida: Paintings by Cecil Herring," through Sept. 29. Free
