"It is my dream
to create an art which is filled with balance,
purity and calmness, freed from a subject matter that is
disconcerting or too attention-seeking. In my paintings, I wish
to create a spiritual remedy, similar to a comfortable armchair
which provides rest from physical expectation for the
spiritually working, the businessman as well as the artist."

"Good color is not
that which makes you aware of its brightness so much as that it
gives
a dynamic sense of growing,
expanding, breathing...........as a thing alive." PR McIntosh,
my art professor.

"The creative process is a
cocktail of instinct, skill, culture
and a highly creative feverishness. It is not like a drug;
it is a particular state when everything happens very quickly,
a mixture of consciousness and unconsciousness, of fear and
pleasure; it is a little like making love, the physical act of
love."

Yellow field
Textured oil on
gallery wrapped canvas, painted on sides
36 x 36 x 2 inches
Some of the fields
around central Florida take on a yellow glow in the early spring.
I love to go driving around, looking at the landscapes any time
of the year. Rural Florida is unique with its stands of wild cabbage
palms, pines and stately oak trees. We still have pasture lands
but it is all fast disappearing! oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I like painting
but also love to do digital art. I crossed over to paint this
work from my ideas of digital art.

Chang
36 x 36 x 2
Chang reflects my
interest in oriental calligraphy. I like sumi painting and working
from the chi. While I am not oriental I feel oriental. I know
that makes no sense.

Mark Rothko said this:
" Iím not
an abstractionist. Iím not interested in the
relationship of color or form or anything else. Iím interested
only in expressing basic human emotions: tragedy, ecstasy,
doom, and so on."
Noguchi's Garden
enamel on canvas
40 x 40
This painting was
inspired by the great sculptor Isamu Noguchi whom I met in New
Orleans during the International Sculpture Conference of 1976.
He was staying at the Holiday Inn where I was also staying! "Sam"
as he was called, had a Japanese father and a Scottish mother
from who he inherited his blue eyes. He has passed away unfortunately
but now has a special museum dedicated to his work in Brooklyn,
N.Y. I painted this homage to Noguchi and his sculpture garden.
