Cecil
Herring is known intenationally as the original creator of Spacescapes
painting, prints, sculpture first shown in New York in 1972. This
was during the time space travel, technology was at its zenith
with the Apollo manned space flight program at Cape Kennedy in
full swing. Astronauts were blasting off from Cape Kennedy in
Central Florida and landing and walking on the moon. Herring had
been a painter and sculptor since 1955 beginning to learn welding
sculpture in metals and plastics, wearable art, music, paintings,
digital art, photography, writings and mixed media work.
"I
was even learning to make wearable art to wear for my first Spacescapes
Show," she says.
"That
was 50 years ago or more. It has taken my lifetime to develop
these skills. My art ideas really took off when I became a space
writer reporter for Florida Today at the NASA Space Center and
saw the future for space technology! I was so inspired I feel
like I launched myself when I saw those huge birds lift off 2.8
miles from where I was sitting in the outdoor press center."

Her
art works all have a "Spacey" quality because as Cecil
Herring says,
"I
love space and consider space exploration to be art . Think about
it. You are faced with blank space to FILL or not fill as you
desire." Her favorite artist is Paul Cezanne who said "Right
now a moment of time is passing by! We must become that moment."
Cezanne also felt his art was about creating space.
Herring
has hundreds of collectors in public and private collections all
over the world.
